KUCHING: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s invitation to Malays from Umno to join Bersatu is good food for thought for all Dayak leaders in the state, said Sarawak Workers Party (SWP) president Munan Laja.

He said he agreed with the Prime Minister’s move and pointed out that it was time for Dayak leaders of all political divides to also come together as one.

“Let’s unite and forget about the past. Until when are we going to stop fighting one another?” he asked.

Munan said uniting as one must not be solely for the sake of winning election seats but should cover all areas, especially uniting all the Dayak leaders.

Asked when he would suggest that Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS) Baru sit and discuss the possibility of coming together, Munan said it would be good if the suggestion came from PRS.

SWP currently has 31,000 members and 95 per cent of them are Dayaks.

On July 5, Dr Mahathir invited all Malay parties including Umno to join Bersatu so as to unite the Malays.

“If we are split, we become weak, united we stand, divided we fall. But we find that there are people forming new parties, now we have become six, soon there will be 10, then 100. There are 30 people in one party. How to win the election?” said Dr Mahathir, who is also the Prime Minister.
