KABONG: Every district in the state must have fire and rescue stations to keep damage to a minimum in the event of a fire.

Deputy Minister of Community Welfare, Mohammad Razi Sitam, urged the Federal government to study the matter.

“I fully support the proposal for these stations to be established in every district in Sarawak,” he told the media after handing over donations to the victims of the old market fire in Kabong, yesterday.

The Saribas assemblyman said if the government could increase the number of stations, it would reduce damage caused by fire because they (the rescue team) could act quickly.

He symbolically handed over the Sarawak Social Welfare Department’s (JKMS) contribution of RM72,450 to 10 shophouse owners who were affected by the disaster on June 29.

It involves food package assistance, fast food, hygiene sets, bedding, kitchen equipment, immediate relief fund (TBS), pocket money, uniforms and building material assistance.
