MIRI: Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew was today inoculated with the Covid-19 vaccine.

The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) sec-general also urged others in Miri to follow suit.

Ting received his vaccination at Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club’s hall together with Minister of Transport Datuk Lee Kim Shin, Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau and frontliners in Miri.

“I urge everyone to take it (the vaccine) as soon as possible in order to protect our community from Covid-19,” he stressed.

Nevertheless, he added the public should not forget to follow the standard operating procedures (SOPs) even though they have already received the vaccine.

“The vaccine will protect us from serious illness, and will also help us all to get back to the things we used to do,” he said when met today.

The rollout of the Covid-19 vaccine via the National Covid-19 Immunsation Plan (NIP) has been seen as the light at the end of the tunnel for tourism industry.

This is after more than a year of lockdowns and restricted travels, Ting said. The federal government will likely create ‘vaccine passport’ or ‘vaccine certificate’ to those who have received their vaccinations, he added.

“This will be a new requirement when you travel across the border, like we used to do in the olden days,” he said.

Ting recalled when he was a child, whenever they went to Brunei and at the border, they were requested to bring their vaccination certificate.

During that time, only those with relevant vaccination certificate were allowed to cross border, he pointed out.
