Ting puts appreciation for Lions on record

MIRI: Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting has lauded initiatives taken by Lions Clubs especially on helping people in rural areas during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Your involvement and contribution to the frontliners and also the needy have been amazing and helpful to the government,” he said at the installation of the Lions Club of Batu Niah’s new board of directors for the year of 2022-23 on Monday night.

The new office bearers were led by club president Andy Jong Wan Joon.

Lions’ selfless contribution to community service, regardless of race or religion, demonstrates the spirit of unity and harmony, said Ting who witnessed the installation cim celebration of the club;s 20th anniversary.

“Lions Clubs International has come out with global services around five areas of need  namely Diabetes, Environment, Hunger, Vision and Childhood Cancer which present significant challenges to humanity,” he said, adding these challenges must be met.

“Your club president Andy has already participated in the Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS) signature fundraiser Go Bald campaign this year, I was honoured to be able to shave his head … I invited him to participate in the campaign with me next year, and he has agreed.

“Next year, it will be his turn to shave my head. I hope more people can participate together with me,” he said.
