BINTULU: Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing has refuted claims of him backing Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to be the next prime minister in forming the new federal government.

He stressed that he remains steadfast alongside Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and that all Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) MPs are in support of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

“It is better if all parties work together and come up with ideas to find a more effective approach to help the government’s efforts to restore the country’s economic state after the Covid-19 pandemic rather than to think about PKR’s president (Anwar) who wanted to become prime minister

“This situation indirectly affects the political turmoil between parties and the stability of the existing government,” he said while speaking at the Jugo Unchat Tuai Rumah appointment prayer ceremony at Niah Suai last Sunday.

He was referring to a report by The Coverage dated Oct 3 which published a list of 121 MPs, including himself, supporting Anwar to be the next prime minister.

On another note, Tiong, who is also Bintulu MP, calls on all GPS component party members to strengthen their cooperation in ensuring the unity and well-being of the people are always looked after.

“Strong unity between people of various races can generate success and excellence for the wellbeing and prosperity of the country.

“I urge the people, especially longhouse residents, to unite and work together among themselves to ensure that the existing harmony can be maintained as well as to ensure that development continues to be brought to their areas,” he said.

At the event, Tiong handed over a personal donation of RM5,000 to the women’s bureau of Rumah Jugo Unchat to purchase curtains and uniforms.
