BINTULU: Acknowledging the importance of the Urban Transformation Centre (UTC), incumbent Bintulu MP Dato Sri Tiong King Sing said folk here would get to see a UTC established after the 15th general election (GE15).
He said the Barisan Nasional (BN) government had approved the construction of a UTC in 2018 near the Bintulu Old Bus Station.
“In 2018, we should have had a UTC. But unfortunately, at that time, I think the Pakatan Harapan government (after taking over following GE14) cancelled many projects, and one of them is our UTC.”
Tiong added that the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA), who owns the land near the Old Bus Station, is currently constructing a building there.
He believed that when construction is done, the UTC would be established there.
“I have asked the federal government to help me, but they said they need planning and all this. So, maybe after the GE, we might be able to finalise this.”
Tiong added that a UTC is important to provide convenience to working residents who can only apply or renew official documents on Saturdays and Sundays.
