MUKAH:  National taekwondo grandmaster Datuk Amir Mohd Noor was here recently to share some tips with local athletes about the sport he is passionate about.

The athletes, mostly students from school and institutions of higher learning here, have a rare opportunity of meeting him, let alone train with a grandmaster from Malaya.

Amir, who is also the president of Malaysia Global Taekwondo Federation (MGTF) based in Shah Alam, spent about an hour training with the athletes at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) St Patrick’s Stella Duce hall.

He shared some tips on movements and related techniques about  taekwondo with the athletes who were obviously excited at his presence.

The visit by the former principal director of Polytechnic and Community College Malaysia to Mukah among others things, was to see the development of the sport here.

The last time Amir visited Mukah was when he officiated at the closing of the 10th Sarawak School Taekwondo Championship and Sarawak Open last month.

Mukah taekwondo coach Zaidi Morshidi thanked the grandmaster for his visit and taking time off to train with athletes.

It is learned that there are a few potential athletes here, especially from SMK St Patrick and SMK Three Rivers.

They won medals not only at state-level competitions, but at national and international-levels too, including the 1st Asia Pacific International Taekwondo Federation (ITF) (School) Championship in Shah Alam last March.
