TM wants to help make Kuching a smart city

KUCHING: Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) held a presentation on its smart city and smart services offerings which were showcased by TM wholly-owned subsidiary, TM VADS Lyfe to Kuching South City Council (MBKS), recently.

Mayor of MBKS, Dato’ James Chan and MBKS management team and councillors attended the presentation which was conducted by General Manager of TM Sarawak, Sarbini Haji Hamdan.

Smart City integrates information and communication technology (ICT) and Internet of Things (IoT) technology securely and intelligently in managing a city’s assets while bridging technological gap and developing a better connected future in community engagement.

During the presentation session, TM showcased and shared its experiences, knowledge and case studies on the smart city and smart services solutions deployed by TM, as well as how it will take form in the future and most importantly, how the public can benefit from these solutions in making their life easier, in line with TM’s vision, “Making Life and Business Easier, for a Better Malaysia”.

Amongst the technological innovations showcased and discussed were smart traffic light management system, smart building, IoT solutions, possible challenges and how both TM and MBKS can work hand in hand to ensure Sarawak is at the forefront in this digital era, with MBKS being the catalyst to make sustainable, achievable approaches through road maps and prioritisations.

TM also shared its in-house capabilities including its dedicated teams of TM R&D, subsidiaries and partners, to develop systems and software for the deployment of smart city solutions, as well as its ability to provide end-to-end solutions with big data analytics, state-of-the-art security system, coupled with the most advanced data centre in the region.

The session was a true eye opener for both parties through knowledge sharing, feedback, healthy discussions and Q&A.

Dato’ James also shared his vision about helping the people, creating value and opportunities, to serve others in whatever MBKS is doing because in the end, the people must feel the benefits.

This collaborative spirit between MBKS, TM and its group of companies, with design thinking approach, will definitely explore new ways of transforming Kuching into becoming a smart city and embracing digitalisation, in line with Sarawak’s aspiration towards a digital economy.
