MIRI: A suspected tomb raider has been detained by the police on Tuesday night for his alleged involvement in grave-robbing activity at Riam cemetery.

Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah said that the suspect aged 28, a local, was picked up by a team of Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID) around 10.45pm near a supermarket in Riam.

“The suspect has 10 criminal records and has just been released from prison on July 15,” Lim said.

On July 17, a police report was lodged after seven graves in Riam cemetery were desecrated. The case is being investigated under Section 297 of the Penal Code for trespassing on burial places.
