KUCHING: A total of 76 recipients were awarded the Bintang Pingat Persekutuan Pengakap Malaysia as well as Sijil Pengakap Raja by Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud at Astana Negeri Sarawak, yesterday.

Leading the list of recipients was Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg who was bestowed the Bintang Semangat Padi Emas, followed by the recipient of Pingat Perkhidmatan Gemilang Captain Zainuddin Tan Sri Hamdan Sirat who is the State Chief Scout Commissioner.

Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, Datuk Seri Mohammad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Datuk Amar Mohammad Ali Mahmud, Tan Sri Safri Awang Zaidel, Kho Ik Teck, Felix Thang Meng Kee and Geoffrey Teo Yung Luan were awarded the Bintang Pengakap Kenyalang. Wan Junaidi and Safri Awang are both former State Chief Scout Commissioners.

Tun Taib, who is also the Patron of the Malaysian Scout Federation, Sarawak Branch also presented the Sarawak Scout Chief Medal to 17 recipients whose list was led by Sudaryo Osman, a former State Chief Scout Commissioner.

Meanwhile, 29 recipients were conferred the Pingat Yang Dipertua Majlis Pengakap Sarawak whose first line of recipients was led by Zahidin Dor. Tun Taib also presented the Sijil Pengakap Raja to 21 recipients.
