KUCHING: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth, and Sports is considering making 2019 as Visit Sarawak Year.

This was revealed by its minister, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah when he said he hoped that the new State Museum could be completed by 2019.

“This new museum will be one of the biggest in this region and is expected to be ready by 2020.

“However, I am hoping that it can be completed by 2019 and help to jumpstart our progression into bringing in tourists,” he said when attending the State Museum Department’s ‘Gawai Raya’ celebration at Imperial Hotel here on Friday night.

During his speech, the minister reminded all of the department’s staff members to be committed and passionate in carrying out their duties.

“This department is important in the sense of preserving the state’s artefacts which can be shown to future generations.

“You have to be committed and passionate, no matter what post you’re holding, as these artefacts each tell a story to both our people and others who wish to know more on our history,” he said.
