KUCHING: The state government is committed to making Sarawak a developed state with high integrity by 2030, said Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Talib Zulpilip.

He said this at the celebration of the Forestry Department Sarawak (JHS) Integrity Day and pre-launching of the department’s Organisational of the Anti-Corruption Plan (OACP) at Imperial Hotel Kuching today.

“Thank you for responding to the call by the Chief Minister (Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg) to cultivate the practice of integrity as well as eradicate corruption in every agency and department in the state of Sarawak,” he added.

Talib explained that the state government wanted to make sure Sarawakians, especially civil servants, are free from corruption.

He said integrity in the Forestry Department Sarawak is important for maintaining the forest ecosystem and for the future generations to experience nature.

He pointed out that the sustainable forest management pioneered by the Forest Department through Forest Certification is an initiative that the state government is very proud of.

He added that the chief minister emphasised the important aspects of replanting trees in degraded areas.

“The state government is prioritising forest restoration activities to ensure the sustainability of a conducive environment that is good for all creatures that inhabit the earth.

“If our forests are not well managed, then we will experience dirty air, polluted water, the greenhouse effect, soil erosion, flash floods and so on,” said Talib.

Present at the ceremony were the director of the Forest Department Datuk Hamden Mohammad, Unit of Integrity and Ombudsman (Union) director Adana Jed and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Sarawak director Muhammad Zaki Hassan.
