SERIAN: The rising cases of misconduct and negative social symptoms in Serian are now at a worrisome level.

This was the very reason why the dialogue session on Child Sexual Offences Act 2017 was held in addressing the issue, thanks to the effort by the organiser, namely the Serian Division Child Welfare Team (PKKK).

According to Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus, the most worrying matters currently happening are the pregnancy cases involving girls and cases of child sexual harassment.

“That is why such a programme is given a priority to be held with headmasters, principals and school teachers so that they can provide education and counselling to their students.

“This is to prevent them (students) from getting caught up in social misconduct or crime,” he said during the closing ceremony of the said dialogue session held at the state government administrative centre on Friday (Apr 22).

Adding on, he stated that the role of headmasters, principals and teachers is very important in helping to educate children because students are always in school and under their supervision.

For the record, PKKK is a non-government organisation (NGO) under the Malaysian Social Welfare Department whose role is to look after the welfare and safety of children in their respective divisions.
