KUCHING: The people are urged to work together on community policing to ensure public safety and security.

Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon said with community policing, it would be able to move its members towards that goal provided that they work with each other.

He said this when officiating at Sebauh district community policing workshop at Rumah Philip Deng, Long Segaya Tubau, Sebauh recently.

“Among the purpose of the community policing workshop is leading towards a safer and more prosperous community as well as emphasising cooperation from various quarters in maintaining safety and health at the community level.

“This is part of the concept of community policing. This workshop is a commitment of the government to the local community in sharing those responsibilities,” he said.

Among topics discussed in the workshop were the roles of the Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) in community policing, voluntary patrol scheme (SRS) and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).

Also discussed were topics on Public Health Awareness (Infection and Contagious Diseases), drug abuse, safety and enforcement as well as containing the spread of rabies.

The speakers were representatives from National Unity and Integration Department, Bomba, Health Department, National Anti-Drug Agency, Police and the Veterinary Department.

“Hopefully the knowledge gained during this workshop can be practised for the progress and prosperity of our community,” Chukpai said.
