Tracker dog receives ‘Jasamu Dikenang’ medal

BATU GAJAH: A tracker dog from the K9 Unit of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) received the ‘Jasamu Dikenang’ medal for finding the body of a missing senior citizen on May 11.

The German Shepherd male dog from the United Kingdom, named Chulio received the medal from Batu Gajah district police chief ACP Mohamad Roy Suhaimi Sarif during the contingent’s monthly assembly today.

At the event, Mohamad Roy handed over the medal to Batu Gajah district deputy police chief Supt Tan Boon Hooi, who then put it around Chulio’s neck.

Chulio’s handler, Corporal Tony Matius Farang, when met by reporters after the event, said the five-year-old male dog, who was trained daily and has the special expertise of detecting bodies, had been involved in over 50 operations during his five-year service with the Perak contingent police headquarters.

Meanwhile, Mohamad Roy said Chulio managed to locate the body of the senior citizen in about half an hour after the search and rescue operation began on May 11.
