KOTA SAMARAHAN: Efforts to carry out the Traditional Village Land Survey Programme will continue in all parts of the state until the relevant land survey work has been effectively completed.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, who gave this assurance, pointed out that the effort was instrumental in recognising traditional villages that either had or had yet to be gazetted as Bumiputera Communal Reserves.

“All community leaders and village chiefs need to work with their elected representatives to include eligible villages in the programme apart from making land survey applications to the Land and Survey Department,” he said.

He said this when speaking at a presentation ceremony for compensation cheques and Bumiputera Communal Reserve gazette under Section 6 of the Sarawak Land Code and land titles under Section 18 (Residence) at Dewan Seminar Intan Kampus Wilayah Sarawak, here on Thursday (Nov 4).

During the function, Awang Tengah presented 91 compensation cheques including 81 for the Bako, Sejingkat and Samarahan Coastal Road project and 10 for the Sekolah Kebangsaan Agama Ibnu Khaldun site expansion project, totalling approximately RM14.2 million.

He also presented the Bumiputera Communal Reserve gazette for Kampung Mang, here, while handing over 109 land titles issued under Section 18 of the Sarawak Land Code to residents of Kampung Sindang.

“Since the year 2010 until today, we have managed to survey over 1,005,765 hectares or 2.48 million acres of Native Customary Rights (NCR) land for a period of 11 years.

“Imagine how much of a difference it is now compared to the old surveying programme from 1960 to 2010.

“During those 50 years, only about 260,000 hectares or 642,460 acres of NCR land were successfully surveyed,” he added.

Also present were Assistant International Trade and Industry, Industrial Terminal and Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Naroden Majais, Muara Tuang assemblyman Datuk Idris Buang, Samarahan Resident Brahim Lumpu and Sarawak Land and Survey Department director Abdullah Julaihi.
