SIBU: An oil spill along the Sibu-Selangau stretch brought traffic to a total halt here on Thursday evening.

Nearly 30 lorries including buses had to stop and stay overnight on the road for their own safety after the palm oil spilled at Batu 40 of the Jalan Pan Borneo here at 7pm.

Lebuhraya Borneo Utara Sdn Bhd (LBU) said their Emergency Response Team (ERT) together with the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) are currently taking the necessary steps to clean up the oil spill which caused the traffic deadlock.

The police are now controlling the traffic flow while the cleaning work is being carried out. The trailer which was stuck on site was also removed.

As at press time, only light vehicles are allowed to pass the affected stretch.
