KUCHING: Traffic congestions from Jalan Penrissen to Jalan Kuching-Serian will be a thing of the past following the completion of four flyovers early next year.

Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang said that all four flyovers will be completed by March of next year, one month ahead of its scheduled completion of April 2022, according to the Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak.

“Once the flyover is completed and traffic can pass through, traffic jams here will be a thing of the past,” he said.

Lo said this after officiating at the reopening of the traffic light junction at Mile 7 connecting Jalan Penrissen to Jalan Kuching-Bau on Tuesday.

He pointed out that there were still some parts of the road heading towards Serian that are still single lanes currently being expanded into a two-lane road; which will be done by the end of the month.

“Right now, there are still traffic congestions on some parts of the road.

“I will monitor the contractor closely to try to get the two lanes done as soon as possible.

“By the end of this month there will be two lanes and that will reduce the congestion here drastically.”
