KUCHING: The traffic light junction at Mile 7, which was closed earlier, is expected to reopen starting tomorrow (Oct 12) afternoon.

According to the Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak Corporate Communication in a Facebook post today (Oct 11), Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang went to see for himself the preparation for the reopening of the Mile 7 junction.

Lo (right) speaking to reporters during his visit to the Mile 7 junction site.

“The contractors have given an assurance that the junction will open to the public from tomorrow afternoon and they are now in the final phase to ensure everything is in order,” he said.

Lo also hoped all preparations would go smoothly and that the traffic congestion would be reduced.

The junction was closed last July to make way for the construction of the Pan Borneo Highway project which included the Mile 7 flyover.

Meanwhile, JKR Sarawak Pan Borneo Highway Unit deputy head Siti Rafizah Mohd Kasiran said with the opening of the Mile 7 junction tomorrow (Oct 12), the contractor would start closing the Mile 6 junction for the construction of the Mile 6 flyover starting Oct 15.

As such, she advised the public to plan their journey in advance and follow the traffic management plan prepared by the contractor.

For any complaints or further inquiries regarding the traffic flow, public can contact the JKR Sarawak Pan Borneo Highway Unit at 082-230 879 or Audi Munir at 016- 8792057 or Isin Senada at 017-8504026.
