PADAWAN: Traffic police arrested two drivers for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol last week.

According to the Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, the operation codenamed ‘Op Mabuk’ was conducted along Jalan Tan Sri Wee Boon Ping on Friday (July 28).

Fourteen members and one officer from the Padawan Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division and the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division were involved in the operation.

Traffic police detained five drivers on suspicion of drink driving and conducted an initial breath test on them.

“Following that, the team performed another test using the evidential breath analyser (EBA) and found that two drivers tested positive for alcohol content that exceeded the limit set.

“Results found that they had alcohol content in their body exceeding the allowable limit,” the department said.

The suspects will be investigated under Section 45A (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which provides for a maximum fine of RM10,000 or up to five years in jail and a driving ban for up to five years.
