MUKAH: Police seized contraband worth about RM226,000 from a trailer in Jalan Mukah-Selangau near here on Wednesday (Nov 25).

Mukah district police chief DSP Jimmy Panyau said about 1.54pm, a police patrol team stopped a trailer driven by a 46-year-old local man.

The driver failed to produce any document or tax sticker from the Royal Customs Department for the cargo.

“We seized all the items and the trailer as well,” DSP Jimmy said in statement on Thursday (Nov 26).

The cargo comprised 100 cartons of Stanley wine with each containing four boxes of four litres each, Peter Vella Vineyards (200 boxes of five litres each), Oranjeboom beer (1,050 cartons with 24 500ml cans), Johnnie Walker White Label (15 cartons with 12 bottles of 1 litre each) and Hendrick’s Gin (10 cartons with12 bottles of 1 litre each).

The seized items were brought to the police station for further investigation under Section 135 (1) (d) of the Customs Act, 1967.
