Trainees have bright prospects in police force

KOTA SAMARAHAN: All 84 trainees of the Police Undergraduate Volunteer Corps (SUKSIS) at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) have bright career prospects with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).

Sarawak Deputy Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata said the trainee’s experience in undergoing training for three years would be an advantage in the recruitment of police personnel.

“I believe that the training, self-discipline and exposure to law enforcement over the years make them one of the best candidates to join the force,” he said.

He said this during a press conference after the presentation of certificates of appointment at the Police Volunteer Inspector ceremony in the Dewan Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra (DeTAR PUTRA), UNIMAS, on Saturday (Feb 19).

He further explained that the SUKSIS, since it was established on June 22 in 2006 at UNIMAS, has had 595 trainees who had successfully completed their training.

Mancha added that of the total, 73 have successfully joined the PDRM.

The trainees undergo training for three years or six semesters taking a total of 672 hours with prescribed modules including parade training module, weapons training module, ethics and integrity management course module, General Operations Force (PGA) basic course module.

“Besides that, they learned basic first aid and rescue course modules, community service programme modules, martial arts modules and physical training modules.

“Therefore, the trainees are able to become a graduate who have high soft skills, shaping their personality towards becoming leaders of high calibre and knowledgeable in the field of policing,” he said.

Mancha hoped that all successful young volunteer inspectors who received the letters of appointment would retain their policing knowledge and good personal skills.

“My hope, and that of the PDRM leadership, is that they can lead students in fighting crimes and become excellent graduates in line with the national education philosophy and policy.

“I also hope that they can venture into the world of policing by applying to become inspectors in the police force,” he said.

Earlier at the ceremony, a total of 84 trainees comprising 51 men and 33 women received certificates of appointment as police volunteer inspectors.

Certificates and prizes were also presented to SUKSIS Inspector Azril Neterhelmy Shaharuddin for Best Overall Trainee, SUKSIS Inspector Nurul Fatin Aisha Mahdi for Best Academic Trainee and, SUKSIS Inspector Mohd Nur Hidayat Rapaiee for Best Trainee for Outdoor Training, all from Skuad 13 of 2017/2020 academic session.

In Skuad 14 of 2018/2021 academic session, SUKSIS Inspector Muhammad Fadhil Kamalludin won the Best Overall Trainee, SUKSIS Inspector Dayang Airil Izzah Abang Ahmad Zaini won the Best Academic Trainee and the Best Trainee for Outdoor Training goes to SUKSIS Inspector Muhammad Iqmal Hakim Mohd Yazid.

Also present at the ceremony were UNIMAS Vice Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi, UNIMAS KOR SUKSIS Commander Prof Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit and Head of Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department of Sarawak Contingent SAC Datuk Nurulhuda Mohd Salleh.
