KUCHING: The Territorial Army Regiments 510 and 511 in the state will soon have a permanent training ground for its personnel.

Regiment 511 commander Brigadier General Abang Mohamad Abang Marzuki said at the moment Regiment 510 and Regiment 511 have several temporary training grounds for their personnel.

“The chief minister is very supportive of this. And the Sarawak government is also considering our application for an allocation for us to better regulate and strengthen the functions of our regiments,” he told reporters after a courtesy visit to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg at Wisma Bapa Malaysia,  yesterday.

Abang Johari is patron of both Territorial Army Regiments 510 and 511.

Abang Mohamad said Regiment 511 has 46 officers and 2,525 other ranks while Regiment 510 has 218 officers and 978 other ranks.

He said army personnel were ready to assist in flood evacuations and other assistance during the current monsoon season.

Also present during the courtesy call were Regiment 510 commander Brigadier General Datuk Lee Heng Cheong, deputy commanders Lieutenant Colonel Awis Ibrahim and Lieutenant Colonel Mohd Nadzri Ismail.
