KUCHING: Travellers from overseas are allowed to transit directly in Sarawak within subject to set conditions.
The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in its updated EnterSarawak Guidelines today (Aug 24), outlined that transit must be within the same day of the connecting flight.
“If transiting via Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) 1 or 2 into Sarawak, travellers must have a connecting flight within 24 hours into Sarawak,” it said.
The committee said travellers are also not allowed to exit the airport or transit terminal buildings in addition to having completed two doses of vaccinations.
“Whereas travellers from Malaysia who have completed two vaccine doses are allowed to transit on the same day of their connecting flights, but are also not allowed to exit the airports and the transit terminal buildings,” it added.
SDMC said travellers such as those from Singapore, Brunei or Indonesia entering directly to Sarawak are still subject to the 14-days quarantine.
“However, those entering Sarawak and have completed quarantine at the quarantine centre in Kuala Lumpur will be given seven days quarantine with conditions that they must enter Sarawak within 24 hours from the issuance of the release order with negative result,” it said.
SDMC also noted that for those in the oil and gas sectors signing off from Sarawak water rigs or vessels must undergo quarantine at Offshore Transit Centres (OTCs) until the test result is negative.
While traveling for non-essential, leisure, holiday purposes is not allowed to enter Sarawak.
Entry to Sarawak for personal reasons; long distance relationship; parent visiting children below aged 18; essential services or official travelling; emergency (death in family or funeral, critical medical treatment from within Malaysia); medical tourism; shipping sector; airline sector; and delivery transporters (essential goods) are permitted and subject to the set conditions.
