Firefighters arrive at the scene to rescue the trapped man.

BINTULU: A man was rescued after being trapped for nearly one hour in the cabin of a collapsed crane at a wharf at Kemena this afternoon (Thursday).

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department operations centre said firefighters from the Bintulu fire station rushed to the wharf around 3.55pm today after receiving a report that a crane had flipped on its side and the operator was trapped.

The man was safely removed from the heavy machinery but sustained injuries to his body in the incident.

He was rushed to Bintulu Hospital for medical treatment around 5.20pm.

  • An earlier version of this report identified the site of the incident as ‘CMS wharf’. A CMS official clarified that the company does not own any wharf. We regret the slip up.
