MIRI: A collision between a car and four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle caused the car driver to be trapped inside the vehicle.

He was freed by firemen and members of the public who were nearby the accident site at Jalan Gunung Subis in Niah on Thursday night (Sept 24).

The driver of the 4WD vehicle was unharmed.

Firefighters from Batu Niah fire station were rushed to the scene when alerted on the trapped victim.

According to Miri Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Zone 6 chief Supt Law Poh Kiong, it took the firemen about 20 minutes to release the trapped victim out of the sedan.

“Our men arrived at the scene around 10.23pm; and they were using hydraulic cutting equipment to release the victim,” Law said.

The operation ended around 10.58pm.
