SIBU: The   resumption of operations at Sibu Airport  at midnight on Sunday brought great relief to travellers.

However, there were some passengers who were nervous to fly  after Malaysia Airlines Flight MH2718 skidded upon landing at the airport in heavy downpour on Saturday night.

The Boeing 737-800 aircraft was carrying 61 passengers and six crew. All on board safely disembarked via two slide rafts and no injuries reported.

A check by New Sarawak Tribune at Sibu Airport yesterday saw  many passengers gathering at the  airport as early as 7am to check  the departure time of their flights.

Permarchella Andi from Sibu said that her flight, which was scheduled to take off at 8.15am,   had been delayed to 2.40pm.

“I was very shocked to find out about the skidding incident because such incidents rarely happen in Sibu.

“I am very nervous to board a plane now because of the incident,” she said.
