Tree trunk saves man from drowning

Firemen from Bintangor station clad in safety jackets, managed to save the victim who nearly drowned after he was swept away by strong currents this morning (Nov 9).

BINTANGOR: A 25-year-old man hung on to dear life on a tree trunk after he was swept away by strong currents while swimming across a flooded road to get to work at Kampung Nanga Strass this morning (Nov 9).

A spokesman from the Sarawak Fire Department operations centre said the incident happened around 6.45am when the man was on his way to work with his father.

Both men were swimming across the flooded road when the fast flowing waters swept them away.

The older man managed to get to the riverbank and called for help as his son clung on to a tree trunk to avoid drowning.

Firemen from Bintangor station who were despatched to the used a rope to get to the man and brought him to safety.
