Tribe Legacy Sarawak campaign generates RM385.5m

KUCHING: A total of 145 events have been held under the Tribe Legacy Sarawak Campaign and have generated a total of RM385.5 million in revenue from 2020 until today.

Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said that the direct expenditure will inject RM209.5 million into the economy, RM23.1 million in tax revenue and provide at least 30,594 jobs to Sarawakians.

“Tribe Legacy Sarawak is aligned with the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy.

“Therefore, it is vital that we all work towards government’s strategic goals and its aim for Sarawak to become a high-income, developed destination by 2030,” he said.

He added the collaboration is fundamental in realising Sarawak’s potential to be a regional leader and preferred destination for sustainable business events and tourism in the ASEAN region.

“I strongly believe that this success could not have been achieved without all of your help.

“Our industry partners, business events planners, associations, government sectors and the media. We thank you,” he said during the BESarawak: Tribal Gathering programme at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching on Monday (October 17).

Abdul Karim added since the reopening of events this year, he had spoken with many of the industry players about their challenges.

“I have nothing but admiration for you passion, courage and determination to keep pushing forward.

“Many of you in this room have tuned weaknesses into strengths, and obstacles into opportunities,” he added.

He announced that the Ministry’s pledge to donate 500 books to Books Build Legacy.

“We ask that you continue collaborating with BESarawak and be proactive players in promoting the Tribe Legacy Sarawak campaign.

“I look forward to your new ideas and achievements and seeing what 2023 will bring,” he added.

Also present during the programme was Deputy Minister, Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, permanent secretary Datuk Hii Chang Kee, deputy vice chancellor (research and Innovation) Professor Dr Wan Hashim Wan Ibrahim, deputy vice chancellor (students and alumni) Professor Dr Kamarudin Kana, permanent secretary of Ministry of Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Dr Rashidah Bolhassan; chief executive officer “Business Event Sarawak (BESarawak) Amelia Roziman and other representatives.
