KUCHING: The Sarawak Housing Purchaser’s Claims Tribunal commended a housing developer for taking the responsibility to rectify detects found in a 3½ storey townhouse at Jalan Stephen Yong here.
The developer Syarikat Sutano Sdn Bhd had addressed the claimants’ — Au Yew Foo and Lau Kiew Mee — complaints following their submission regarding (16 defects) to the developer on the property purchased last August.
Tribunal president Robert Elone Sireng said the claimants were satisfied with the rectification works carried out by the developer.
“He (Au) actually submitted a list of 16 defects to the developer on Aug 2, 2018 just after a month after the occupation permit (OP) was issued.
“After the letter was sent, eight of the defects were rectified by the contractor,” he told reporters after hearing the case in the Housing Tribunal Court at the Old State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Building here.
Robert was assisted by panel members Alhadi Ibrahim and Morni Wahie.
“Yesterday (Wednesday) our tribunal officers went to the site for a joint inspection with them just to confirm that the defects have been rectified and that based on the inspection report, everything (all 16 defects) have been rectified.
“The claimant is quite happy with the work so far. He (Au) still has about one and a half month of defect rectification left so if there are any other defects in his house that he wants the developer to rectify, he still can do so.”
Robert also pointed out the issue raised by the claimant in regards to the drainage outside his house.
“In respect of the drain it is a common area when it comes to strata title development of apartments and so on. This common area will be managed by the management corporation of the property.
“Eventually, if there are any defects outside, the management corporation will handle it, in the meantime, the developer will look into this defect to rectify it,” he said.
