MIRI: Sixty-three cases of housing disputes have been reported to the Sarawak Housing Purchaser Claims Tribunal between January and August this year.

“Most of the cases involved property defect through poor workmanship and developers’ failure to hand over the house to their buyers,” said permanent secretary to the Ministry of Local Government and Housing Datuk Antonio Kahti Galis at the opening of a housing tribunal and policy seminar held in a leading hotel here yesterday.

He said since the tribunal was established on May 1, 2010, until to-date, a total 436 cases pertaining to disputes between housing developers and purchasers were settled involving claims worth RM2.1 million.

Some 100 participants from various government agencies and local community leaders attended  the seminar.

The event was the third organised by the Sarawak Housing Purchaser Claims Tribunal this year after Lawas and Limbang. Similar events will be held in other districts statewide.
