KUCHING: Three men were nabbed in less than 24 hours after assaulting a satay seller at Jalan Batu Kawa here on Tuesday.

Padawan District Police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan said the 3am incident happened near Kampung Stapok when the male victim, 29, was on his way back to his home

According to Aidil, the victim’s car was suddenly stopped by the three suspects, who were also his acquaintances.

“The victim was badly injured on the forehead and lips, as well as on the knee.  

“The suspects later left the scene with the victim’s car and cellphone,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.

The victim, from Kampung Sandong, Jalan Stephen Yong, immediately filed a report on the incident at a nearby police station.

According to Aidil, the first suspect, 23, was arrested at Kampung Segedup at around noon, while the second suspect, 25, was arrested at Taman Boulder Built in Batu Kawa about 45 minutes later. The third suspect, 27, was arrested at Kampung Stapok around 4.30pm.

“Initial investigation revealed that the suspects attacked the victim because they thought that he had told police about their drug activities. 

“Further investigation also revealed two of the suspects (aged 25 and 27) had previous criminal drug records,” the police chief said.

Police also recovered the victim’s car and cellphone. Also seized was a hockey stick used in the attack.

All the suspects were detained for further investigation under Section 394 of the Penal Code.
