SERIAN: Police arrested three men believed to be involved in drug abuse last Monday (Mar 15).

District police chief DSP Aswandy Anis said the district’s narcotics police caught the suspects, aged between 31 and 46, inside a parked vehicle behind the supermarket at Jalan Serian Bypass.

After checking the suspects and the vehicle, police found a plastic packet containing crystalline substances believed to be syabu, weighing around 6.15g.

“The drugs, valued about RM600, are believed to be distributed to addicts in the district and nearby villages.

“The suspects were arrested and later taken to Serian NCID office for further actions,” said Aswandy.

He added all three men, who were unemployed, also tested positive for drugs.

The trio will be remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 12(2), Section 15(1)(a) and Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Aswandy said such operations would be carried out continuously in the future to curb drug trafficking and addiction in the district, especially in the rural areas.
