Trio arrested for stealing batteries

MIRI: Three men, including a Filipino national, were detained for allegedly stealing two batteries worth RM800 out of a lorry that was parked in front of a house at Lorong Baleh in Taman Tunku here.

The men, aged 27, 32 and 45 years old, were detained at 10.50pm last Saturday (Aug 21) at a house in Jalan Kuching Timur 3, Taman Tunku by Miri Criminal Investigation Department personnel.

Miri police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari said the arrest was made following a police report lodged by the lorry driver, 57, on Aug 18 after he noticed that the batteries have gone missing.

The trio was remanded to facilitate investigations under Section 379A of the Penal Code for vehicle theft and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for entering the country without valid documents.
