KUCHING: Three men evading police that led to a high-speed chase in the city failed to make their escape yesterday.

District police chief ACP Awang Din Awang Ghani said the men aged 25, 27 and 33, were travelling in a vehicle when a police patrol car (MPV) spotted them at Jalan Central Timur at 1.30pm and made attempt to intercept the heavily tinted vehicle to question the occupants.

However, instead of slowing down, the driver sped off. In response, the patrol unit alerted the Control Centre for assistance.

He added that a police vehicle was nearly rammed by the reckless driver in their bid to escape from being arrested along Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yaakub.

“The pursuit continues up till Jalan Depo, Petra Jaya when the vehicle was intercepted and the three men jumped out of the vehicle and ran in separate directions.

“One of the men threw away something while trying to escape. Following their arrest, we found a bag containing four packages with crystalline substance believed to be syabu,” he said when contacted yesterday.

The police also found in the trio’s car a mask and a fake gun (BB gun).

The men were taken to the police station.

Awang also said that all three suspects have had previous records for drug offences and theft.

“We are investigating the case for violating the movement control order (MCO) and other offences including drugs,” he said.
