MIRI : A female driver and her two passengers escaped unhurt but their car was destroyed in the wee hours of yesterday after it erupted in flames at Jalan Ilmu Desa Senadin here.

A team of firemen from Lopeng fire station was despatched to the scene after responding to a call pertaining to a burning car at 1.36 am.

“Our firemen quickly responded and upon arrival one vehicle (Proton Wira) was engulfed in flames,” said Miri Fire and Rescue Department acting chief Ahmad Nizam Sapaiee.

The blaze was extinguished by four firemen using breathing apparatus and water tender.

“No injuries were reported during the incident,” he said.

Prior to the incident, the 54-year-old driver and her two passengers were heading home from a relative’s house in Tudan Desaras when the car suddenly burst into flames upon reaching the area.

“It is learnt that the driver managed to pull over before getting out of the burning car after she smelt something burning from the car’s engine,” said Ahmad Nizam.

The damaged to the car is estimated to be around RM15,000.
