SIBU: The chief minister wants the support of everyone while he works to bring Sarawak forward.

Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg told attendees of a dinner organised by the Federation of Seven Clans Association here, that trust was vital.

“We have all the ingredients to become a developed state by 2030 but we need trust.”

Using himself as an example, he said he had managed to survive politics since 1977 due to his sincerity.

Stressing that he could not go it alone, he wanted everyone to work together with him for Sarawak’s future.

“For the development of the state, we need to strike a balance. We need everyone to take part.

“The philosophy under my leadership is, we need to look after the interests of everyone so that we can move forward,” Abang Johari said.

He added that Sarawak, in its pursuit of development, would not deviate from the constitution.

“We have our constitution. The federal government has its rights. Sarawak has its rights, but we will comply with the constitution.”

Sarawak’s future, he said, was bright as even world-renowned futurist and physicist Dr Michio Kaku had commented recently that Sarawak had all the right ingredients to be a developed state by 2030.

On Sibu’s development, Abang Johari said it needed a development master plan much like Singapore.

The plan, he said, was needed as Sibu is located on peat soil.

He later gave a grant of RM500,000 to the association.
