KUCHING: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad knew that by forming Bersatu, a Malay based party, would split the Malays further.

Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri James Jemut Masing said Dr Mahathir knew that it was a mistake and now wants to amend it by asking the Malays to join Bersatu in order to have one Malay party.
“I can understand his reasoning for toppling Umno, but you don’t have to burn the mosquito net to get rid of the mosquitoes.

“Only history will tell whether Dr Mahathir was right in destroying Umno, the party he presided for over two decades,” he said.

On June 5, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad invited all Malay parties including Umno to join Bersatu in efforts to unite the Malays.

He said many Malay parties were being formed which reduced the chances of Malay parties winning the election.
