Turkey envoy calls on Taib

KUCHING: Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Ragad Kurdi Taib, received a courtesy visit from Republic of Turkey’s Ambassador to Malaysia Dr Merve Safa Kavakci.

The visit, which took at Demak Jaya on Friday (Feb 25), was Dr Kavakci’s first  to the state since his appointment as Turkey’s Ambassador to Malaysia in 2017.

According to a statement, she is on a three-day official visit with the objective of putting both Sarawak and Turkey in each other’s map in terms of trade, commercial and cultural relationship.

For the record, recognised among the World’s Most Influential 500 Muslims, Dr Kavakci was also the first Muslim woman with hijab elected to the Turkish Parliament, the Grand National Assembly of Turkey in 1999.

Also present during the courtesy call were Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts and Minister for Youth, Sport and Entrepreneur Development, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and wife, Datin Seri Zuraini Abdul Jabbar.
