KUCHING: A total of 20 MamaCare practitioners have successfully completed their “MamaCare Maternity Care Training Capacity Workshop 2017” at M Hotel in Jalan Datuk Abang Abdul Rahim here, yesterday.

The success of 20 new practitioners in completing their four-day and three-night workshop made Sarawak to have a total of 73 trained MamaCare practitioners.

Present to officiate at the closing ceremony was Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Dr. Saadiah Abdul Samat accompanied by State Director of National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN) Rohaini Ahmad.

Earlier, Saadiah in her opening remarks stated, based on the Sarawak MamaCare revenue report monitored by LLPKN, from October 2014 to July 2017, a total of 11,544 clients had received post-natal and healthcare massages from MamaCare practitioners.

Meanwhile, she added, the total income of MamaCare practitioners for the same period was RM912,357.

“I am also proud that at the moment there are four MamaCare practitioners from Kuching who have successfully opened their own spas, namely two home spas and two spa shops.

“I hope that these spas will be diversified with other services such as manicure, pedicure, facial, hairdressing and make-up so that women’s services can be provided in one place (One Stop Centre),” she explained.

The MamaCare programme was an initiative of 1Malaysia Women Initiative and Self Empowerment (1MWISE) under the National Blue Ocean Strategies which was inspired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in 2012.

Under this initiative, Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) is tasked with empowering women’s economy through capacity building programmes.

KPWKM, through LPPKN, implemented the MamaCare programme with the ultimate goal of training single mothers and elderly women among low-income households in maternal care through the MamaCare Capacity Development Programme.

The MamaCare LPPKN programme in Sarawak involves women from various ages ranging from 20 years to 69 years old comprising Malays, Chinese, Iban, Bidayuh and Dusun ethnics.
