KUCHING: Two AstraZeneca Vaccine Administration Centres (PPVAZs) will begin operations in Sarawak starting Monday (June 7).

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the two centres are located at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here and the National Youth Skills Institute (IKBN) in Miri.

“The PPVAZ at BCCK will operate from 8 am until 9 pm from Monday to Friday and 8 am to 5 pm on Saturday and Sunday.

“Meanwhile, the PPVAZ at IKBN will operate from 8 am until 5 pm from Monday to Sunday,” it said on Sunday (June 6).

On May 26, one million appointment slots for the second phase of the AstraZeneca vaccination for Malaysians under the age of 60 years old were filled within 90 minutes.

Following overwhelming response from the public, the government, on May 27, has included the vaccine into the Covid-19 National Immunisation Programme mainstream vaccine list.

Previously, the decision to implement the voluntary or ‘opt-in’ method was made after seeing reluctance among the community to receive the AstraZeneca vaccine, due to reports linking it to cases of blood clots.
