KUCHING: Members of the public apprehended two suspects who allegedly cheated an elderly man of RM17,000 on Tuesday afternoon. The duo, a 63-year old man from Tabuan Laru and a van driver from Sibu, were apprehended at Batu Kawa near here and handed over to the police, said Padawan police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan.

The suspects, who claimed to be Indonesians, reportedly asked the victim, aged 70 from Jalan Matang, to redeem a supposedly winning 6D lottery ticket for RM300,000. They promised to give the victim RM20,000. Aidil said initial investigation revealed that the 63-year-old suspect has six previous cheating cases. Both are being remanded to facilitate police investigation.
