Two fatalities recorded in Miri and Sibu

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded two new Covid-19 fatalities today (Jan 22), bringing the total number of deaths in the state to 24 cases.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the latest cases were reported in Miri and Sibu respectively.

“The first victim was Case 2,775 involving a 48-year-old local man who was admitted to Miri Hospital on Jan 19 for having breathing difficulty due to excess water in the body following chronic kidney disease comorbidity.

“The rT-PCR test conducted on Jan 20 came back positive on Jan 21. The case was confirmed dead at 2.04am on Jan 21.

“The case also had other comorbidities such as diabetes, high blood pressure and dyslipdemia,” he told a press conference on daily Covid-19 update on Friday.

Meanwhile, he said the second fatality was Case 2,182 involving a 66-year-old local man who was admitted to Sibu Hospital on Jan 17.

“He was admitted to the Sibu Hospital for having breathing difficulty and was intubated on the same day. He was pronounced dead at 3.11am on Jan 22,” he added.

Uggah mentioned that the rapid test kit antigen and rT-PCR test conducted on Jan 17 was found to be positive on the same day.

The case, which was linked to Pasai Cluster, also had comorbidities such as diabetes, high blood pressure and asthma.

On behalf of SDMC, Uggah extended heartfelt condolences to the family members of the victims.

Meanwhile, Kuching, Sibu, Miri, Beluru and Kanowit districts remain red zones with a total of 1,400 cases of local infection reported in the last 14 days.

Sebauh and Dalat districts remain orange zones with 50 cases of local infection.

There are 17 districts on yellow zone namely, Serian, Daro, Subis, Belaga, Betong, Meradong, Julau, Kapit, Simunjan, Asajaya, Beluru, Selangau, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Bukit Mabong, Bintulu and Limbang.
