The flood situation in Marudi remains unchanged.

MIRI: Two evacuation centres (PPS) for flood victims in the Northern Region are still operational while one was closed at noon yesterday (September 6).

Those still open are PPS Marudi Civic Centre and PPS SMK Telang Usan, while PPS Darulssalam Mosque in Long Lama closed yesterday following an improvement in the weather conditions.

This has led to a drop in the number of flood victims. Early yesterday morning, there were 92 people from 22 families. Now, only 40 flood victims from 12 families remain.

This was told by the Miri Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Zone Six chief, Supt Law Poh Kiong yesterday (Monday, Sept 6).

Fifty-two flood victims from PPS Darulssalam Mosque Long Lama were allowed to return home after their areas were declared safe.

Meanwhile, in Marudi and interior Baram areas, the flood situation remains unchanged.

Some flood victims at Kampung Padang Kerbau in Marudi refused to be evacuated and chose to stay even though the flood waters had entered their areas.

Firemen from Marudi who patrolled the areas urged the residents to remain vigilant and to watch out for rising waters.

In Kampung Narum, Marudi, a 76-year-old man, refused to be evacuated from his home although the flood water had reached the house.

Instead, he chose to move into his other house in a nearby area with his two adult children.
