Two former ministers, an NGO leader call on Najib

KUALA LUMPUR: Two UMNO Members of Parliament (MPs) and a non-governmental organisation (NGO) leader visited former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak at his private residence in Jalan Langgak Duta here yesterday.

They are Padang Terap MP Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid, who is the former Minister of Education, Pengerang MP Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, who is a former Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department and Selangor NGO Chairman Nazilah Idris. Azalina was seen arriving at the house in a Range Rover at about 10am and leaving about 40 minutes later. Mahdzir came soon after Azalina left and spent about an hour at the residence. Nazilah, who spent about 20 minutes at the house, said Najib was in good health and calm.

About 50 reporters from the local and international media stationed themselves in the vicinity of Najib’s residence as early as 6am yesterday. Up to noon, there were no developments with regard to police activity at the house.

Early yesterday, police removed 72 suitcases containing jewellery, various currency and valuables as well as 284 boxes containing branded handbags from three units of luxury condominium in Jalan Raja Chulan during their search in relation to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) case, according to Bukit Aman Commercial CID Director Datuk Seri Amar Singh Ishar Singh, who was at the location.

Najib and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor have been blacklisted by the Immigration Department and they are prohibited from leaving the country.

Last Tuesday, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he expected charges to be filed against Najib following investigations into allegations against the former Prime Minister over the removal of hundreds of millions of US dollars from the 1MDB fund. -Bernama
