Two friends jailed five months for robbery, theft

KUCHING: Two friends were sentenced to five months imprisonment each for selling a stolen telephone to a telephone shop last November.

Shahrul, 25, and Za’afar, 39, pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 414 of the Penal Code read together with Section 34 of the same code before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali.

They were charged with jointly disposing a stolen Samsung brand handphone belonging to a 22-year-old girl.

They committed the offence at a house in Kampung Kudei, Jalan Rubber Barat at around 2.45 am, last November 21.

According to the facts of the case, on November 21, at around 2.45am, the female victim was on duty at the counter of a budget hotel in Jalan Tun Razak when two unknown men approached her.

While pointing a knife at the victim, one of the men had asked her to hand over a sum of money and a smartphone to them or they would injure her if she refused.

Out of fear, she handed over RM394 in cash and a Samsung brand smartphone.

The victim later made a police report on the incident.

On November 27, the police arrested Za’afar at a house in Taman Golden, Jalan Sungai Tengah around 1:15am.

Mohd Shahrul was arrested at a restaurant in Jalan Batu Kawa, around 1am, on December 1.

Meanwhile, on November 28, police confiscated a smartphone from a phone shop in Jalan Samarak, believed to belong to the victim.
