KUCHING: The police here have arrested two men, aged 22 and 28, found in possession of drugs at Jalan Matang Baru here last Thursday.

District acting police chief Supt Merbin Lisa said the arrest was made around 1.45pm upon receiving tip-off.

“Inspection on both men found one solid chunk of cannabis drug weighing about 501 grams worth RM7,000,” he said in a statement yesterday.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the death penalty or life sentence and whipping of 15 strokes, upon conviction.

Merbin said the suspects obtained the drug from a supplier from Peninsular Malaysia and it was brought into the state by the suspect himself via air transportation. The drug was intended to be sold around Kuching city.

“Investigation on the suspects is still ongoing to identify the source and to track down the suppliers.

“Both suspects will be remanded to assist in our investigation,” he added.
