FIREFIGHTERS are extricating one of the victims from the wreckage.

SARIKEI: Two men were injured after the cargo lorry they were travelling in crashed into a stationary tanker lorry at Bukit Berayang, Jalan Saratok here early yesterday.

In the incident that occurred at around 1.00am, the cargo lorry driver, Lau Hung Chuong, 47, sustained head and arm injuries while his assistant, Su Kwong Kiong, 22, broke his left leg.

Prior to the incident, it was believed that the tanker lorry had broken down and stopped at the road shoulder.

A spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said seven firefighters with two fire engines were deployed to the scene after they received an emergency call from the public at 1.15am.

“The cargo lorry is believed to be heading to Sibu. Upon arrival at the scene at 1.38am, we were informed that one of the victims was pinned to his seat.

“The victim was extricated from the cargo lorry at 2.00am. We then handed him over to the paramedics, who took him to Sarikei Hospital for further treatment,” said the spokesman.
