Two Indonesians missing after testing positive

KUCHING: Two Indonesian men had gone off the radar after testing positive for Covid-19.

According to Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), the men (Cases 1,107 and 1,108) underwent screening at a private health facility in Serian last Monday (Dec 21) prior to starting new jobs.

“They were offered to work in Asajaya district by their new employer. After a meeting in Kuching, they were then brought to a workers’ quarters in Asajaya on Dec 20.

“Both cases were brought by employers to undergo Covid-19 screening on Dec 21 and the test results came back positive two days later. These cases did not show any signs or symptoms.

“Until this report was made, these two cases have not been found because they have disappeared after the screening,” SDMC said in a statement on Sunday (Dec 27).

The cases are being investigated by the state Health Department and the Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPS).

Further investigations as well as contact tracing are in full swing. Both cases were categorised as imported cases.

Sarawak recorded three new positive Covid-19 cases including the two imported cases on Sunday (Dec 27), bringing the total number of positive cases in the state to 1,108.

The other case (Case 1,106), reported in Kuching, involved an Indonesian man who underwent screening at a private health facility on Dec 26 prior to starting work at a new place in Kuching. His result came back positive for the virus on the same day.

“Early investigation found that the case has a history of working legally in Sarawak since December last year at a food premises in Kuching. He returned legally to his country of origin in July this year.

“The case re-entered Sarawak via a rat trail on Dec 25. This case was categorised as an imported case,” added SDMC.

There were no new recovery and discharged cases; hence, the total number of cases is 1,062 or 95.85 percent.

As of today (Dec 27), 25 cases were still receiving treatment at hospitals, namely 11 at Sarawak General Hospital, six at Miri Hospital, five at Bintulu Hospital and three at Sibu Hospital.

Four new person under investigation (PUI) cases were reported with none awaiting lab test results.

Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu and Lawas districts remain yellow zones with a total of five cases of local infection reported in the last 14 days.
