SARIKEI: A teenage boy sustained a broken leg after he was buried up to thigh level while an elderly woman sustained minor injuries in a landslide at Rumah Branda Baling, Nanga Keluton, Jalan Entabai-Pakan yesterday.

The injured victims, a 13-year-old boy and a 59-year-old woman, were taken to Nanga Entaih health clinic for further treatment.

It was reported that the buried teenager was rescued by the villagers before the firemen arrived.

A spokesman from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said they received a call from the health clinic around 5.40pm and despatched firemen from Bintangor station to the scene, about 70km from the station.

Upon arriving, the team confirmed that the landslide happened at the back of four pintu (doors) from the 36-door longhouse, where the kitchens and rooms had collapsed.

The team had installed fences around the ruins to ensure that the residents did not go near the area.

A total of 12 residents, who were affected due to the landslide, were instructed to move in to their relatives’ homes for the meantime.

The team also advised longhouse residents to be vigilant in case of recurrences.
